At its core, the casting choices whisper of a bold stroke by the filmmakers: a desire to blend tried-and-true finesse with a raw edge that cuts deeper than the norm.
Dragged Across Concrete. Those who can't earn a living must find another way to provide. "There's a lot of imbeciles out there." Dragged Across Concrete is a 2019 neo-noir crime drama written and directed by S. Craig Zahler, starring Mel Gibson, Vince Vaughn, Tory Kittles, Michael Jai White, Jennifer Carpenter, and Thomas Kretschmann.
The problem is that, whereas Bone Tomahawk and Brawl in Cell Block 99 were 132 minutes long (slightly more than the typical drama), Dragged Across Concrete is 159 minutes long. Most movies aren't 159 minutes long; it's legitimately difficult to keep an audience interested in a movie that long, even moreso when the style is not viscerally appealing.
Further, although “Dragged Across Concrete” doesn’t have quite as many dialogue zingers as Zahler’s earlier films do, the movie has a few good one-liners, such as when Vaughn says that robbing the crooks is a bad idea, “like lasagna in a can.” Zahler does try to humanize the two cop characters in a rather simplistic way.
