Instead it is a film made up of moments that may work in a trailer but as a feature length film it lacks impetus and the moments where it strives for something more profound falls short. Joseph Gordon Levitt clearly has fun as the titular Hesher but it is a pretty hollow experience with underdeveloped characters and subplots that never quite add up to a satisfying whole.

Later, Hesher sets Dustin's car on fire, leading to police questioning T.J., but lack of evidence forces them to let him go. T.J. proceeds to spy on Nicole at the grocery store when Hesher appears and follows her home with T.J. She causes a wreck and Hesher threatens the other car's owner and takes Nicole and T.J. to a random house.
Gordon-Levitt was born to play this role. Hesher is a masterpiece of dysfunction and redemption through fire, drugs, vagina jokesand violence. It is a refreshing left turn from the touchy-feely everything is going to work out motif that seems to be gagging the indie film market. 0 1
