Yes and no. Peak era Prince circa 1979-1988 I’d say was most certainly not. He was arguably a queer icon despite being a straight man. Prince was gender nonconforming before it was cool. I don’t think his acceptance of Wendy and Lisa’s relationship was performative because such virtue signaling wasn’t even done at this time.
