Dec 30, 2020 · Tick fever is a condition seen in dogs caused by the Rickettsia rickettsii bacteria which (in the US) is spread primarily through the bite of an infected American dog tick, Rocky Mountain wood tick, or brown dog tick. Today our Charlotte vets explain some of the symptoms of tick fever in dogs, and how this condition can be treated.
Symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) are characterized by a sudden onset of moderate to high fever, a severe headache, fatigue, muscle pain, chills and a rash. The rash associated with RMSF typically begins on the ankles and wrists and spreads to the rest of the body including the soles of the feet and palms of the hands.
