Around season 4 South Park really finds it's voice and then it's smooth sailing for a long time. Seasons 4 through about 14 are South Parks golden era. Almost every episode is a banger. The later seasons are also good, and have some top tier classic episodes among them, but overall I don't think they quite reach the consistency of the golden era.
South Park is an incredibly witty show with many layers. You have the funny stuff, but look deeper and there is real and meaningful social commentary about current events. Also, nothing is sacred on South Park. It's simply an amazing show.
South Park is a such a great show. Some people complain that some of the episodes are based too much on current events, but I disagree. It reminds me of some the dumb things that the world has been doing during those years, and I can laugh again about it. So yes, totally worth it.

South Park obviously has an edge, and has from day 1, but the first time I saw Scott Tenorman Must Die I knew the show would feature no boundaries, ever. All that said, I nominate the following equally delicious seasons: Season 5 Season 8 Season 9
South Park is an amazing show that points out a lot of flaws in humanity. It shows how kids love to swear when given the chance, how hateful certain groups of people are, and how big corporations and others are corrupt. But even though this show is completely comical and not to be taken seriously, it actually helped me be a better person.
