The green anaconda ( Eunectes murinus ), also known as the giant anaconda, emerald anaconda, common anaconda, common water boa, or southern green anaconda, is a semi-aquatic boa species found in South America and the Caribbean island of Trinidad. It is the largest, heaviest and the second longest snake in the world, after the reticulated python.
Green anacondas are well adapted to aquatic life. Their nose and eyes are located on the top of their heads to help them see and breathe while swimming in the water. Anacondas that live in areas that flood seasonally must find water during the dry season or burrow into the mud. Full-grown adult females have few predators due to their size.

Jul 17, 2017 · The longest known specimen of this species was a 17.09 feet long green anaconda encountered by Dr. Jesús Antonio Rivas, an anaconda specialist. The body color of the anaconda is olive green with overlaid black colored blotches throughout the length of the snake. Two subspecies of the green anaconda are recognized: E. m. gigas and E. m. murinus.
