Personally it's my pick for best book of all time, or at least tied with The Book of the Long Sun. It's absolutely incredible. It's a puzzle, you won't understand the big picture until you've read it at least a couple times. Unlike another comment, The Urth of the New Sun was incredible to me, so I wouldn't pass on that one.
