The biggest eruptions recorded in the region were the 6 years between 1730 and 1736 – during this period, over 100 volcanoes became active and devastated part of the island. It is one of the main parts of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve created by Unesco in 1993.

Jump on a bus to playa blanca and then get a taxi from there. No public bus goes near timanfaya. Will be a cheaper option. The other option is to book a day trip with on of the many tour companies in either costa teguise or puerto del carmen. You can get a public bus to either or a taxi.
Unfortunately the local bus does not arrive until Timanfaya and the nearest bus stop are too far from the park. Between 11:00 and 15:00 it can be crowded with organized tours and excursions and you may need to wait longer to get on the guided bus tour.
