Based on the top horror comic's of the 1950's, The Vault of Horror was based on one of E.C. Comics' 3 Top titles. The other two include world famous "Tales Of The Crypt" (also made into a similar movie) and "The Haunt Of Fear." This movie has five short stories similar to the comic book format. — justintime69.
None of the film's stories are actually from Vault of Horror comics. All but one appeared in Tales from the Crypt , the exception being from Shock SuspenStories . The film omits the Vault Keeper character from the comics.
