Of course War and Peace is worth reading; the real issue is that people simply don't read anymore, and those who do read find something like W&P to be too extravagantly long and involved. It's a beautiful book.
• 5 yr. ago. If you're not into Russian history/culture, I would say absolutely not. The characterization gets better, but it's still way too long and his tirades on history get tiresome. There are a few excellently done scenes, but it's not worth slogging through all the rest of it.

The book is the product of a very big mind, who lost interest in almost everything War and Peace was about before he died. It is a living organism that is never quite the same as you remembered when you go back to it.
