Permalink. 10/10. Brilliant performance by Laughton. bensonmum2 5 February 2005. For those unfamiliar, Island of Lost Souls (1933) is the earliest and easily the superior version of H.G. Wells' Dr. Moreau. This is a beautifully filmed movie that still supplies the creepy moments almost 70 years after being made.

Jan 26, 2017 · The film remained banned in the UK until July 1958 when it was finally released with cuts and awarded an X certificate. Around the time that the travesty that was John Frankenheimer version of The Island of Dr. Moreau was released in 1996 the cuts made to Island of Lost Souls was restored and the film awarded a 12 certificate.
