The lagoon is created by a sand bar at the edge of the deeper water. The sand bar is split in the centre, allowing water in to create the lagoon. When the tide is out, there is more sand visible. When the tide is in, the lagoon fills up and only the sand bar remains visible. Even at high tide, it appears to be little more than knee deep.
