Jürgen Schmidhuber (born 17 January 1963) is a German computer scientist noted for his work in the field of artificial intelligence, specifically artificial neural networks. He is a scientific director of the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research in Switzerland . [2]
It's strange to me how Schmidhuber is able to connect a lot of other people's work to stuff he did 20-30 years ago, but it doesn't seem to be the case that he's bringing his old work forward to progress the field.
May 2, 2024 · Schmidhuber received his Ph.D. in 1996 from the University of Stuttgart and has since held positions at various institutions, including the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). He is currently a professor at TUM’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
As computational power gets cheaper, he predicts that machines will be up to 10,000 times faster by 2036. His work has paved the way for achieving AI capable of learning incrementally and planning, reasoning, and decomposing problems. Human-level AI is no longer such a distant dream.
