James Stuart Blackton (January 5, 1875 – August 13, 1941) was a British-American film producer and director of the silent era. One of the pioneers of motion pictures, he founded Vitagraph Studios in 1897.
He lost his entire fortune in the 1929 crash and was forced to seek work on a government project in California. Later he was hired as director of production at the Anglo-American Film Company, where he worked until his death. Between 1900 and 1915, Blackton was president of the Vitaphone Company, a manufacturer of record players.

Aug 8, 2020 · Five years later, Blackton suffered a skull fracture after he was hit by a vehicle. This unfortunate accident led to his untimely death a few days later, on August 13th, 1941.
