Né le 5 juin 1931 à Pontchâteau (Loire-Atlantique), Jacques Demy est mort d'une leucémie le 27 octobre 1990. Passionné par le cinéma dès son plus jeune âge, il débute avec le cinéaste d'animation Paul Grimault, puis devient l'assistant de Georges Rouquier qui produit son premier court métrage professionnel, Le Sabotier du Val de Loire (1956).

The director of 21 films, his experimentation as a director was based deeply in the whimsical Hollywood Golden Age, and its colorful musicals and fantasy films that were his inspiration.
Lola is a 1961 romantic drama film written and directed by Jacques Demy (in his feature directorial debut) as a tribute to director Max Ophüls, described by Demy as a "musical without music". Anouk Aimée stars in the title role. The film was restored and re-released by Demy's widow, French filmmaker Agnès Varda.
