Jul 5, 2021 · It sounds like you may have Portrait Orientation Lock enabled. You can disable this in the Control Center by swiping down from the top right corner of your screen. You'll see a lock with a circled arrow around it. Find more information here: Rotate the screen on your iPhone or iPod touch.
Now this is what "fullscreen" looks like. I may have found a solution, it worked for me. open up "settings" - then click on "apps" - scroll down and find microsoft photos, click on it - then click on "advanced options" - scroll down and click on "repair". Now my photos are once again displaying full screen no borders.

I found out a way of getting a somewhat usable fullscreen mode with the Windows 10 Photo viewing app: Open a photo with the app from within a directory full of photos (you would have guessed that one already). Enter diaporama mode (from top right menu, probably hidden in the dots ... à la more menu). Immediately hit the SPACE bar.
To revert to storing new pictures as JPEGs, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and select Most Compatible. The other option is to convert images from HEIC to JPG on the fly when you transfer them ...
