The most famous Benaiah referenced in the Tanakh is the son of Jehoiada, who came from the southern Judean town of Kabzeel. [6] According to the text, Benaiah was one of David's Mighty Warriors, commander of the third rotational army division; ( 2 Samuel 23:20; 1 Chronicles 27:5 ).
v. t. e. Jehoiada ( Hebrew: יְהוֹיָדָע Yəhōyāḏā‘, " Yahweh knows") in the Hebrew Bible, was a prominent priest in the kingdom of Judah during the reigns of Ahaziah (reigned c. 842 - 841 BCE), Athaliah (reigned c. 841–835 BCE), and Joash (reigned c. 836–796 BC).
Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, of Kabzeel, who through a number of daring exploits distinguished himself as one of David’s mighty men (2 Sam 23:20, 21) when the latter fled from Saul. When David became king he gave high recognition to the men who had performed valiantly under him while in exile.

Jehoiada was "the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel" ( 2 Samuel 23:20 ), but commentators read with Septuagint and Ewald, "Benaiah (the son of Jehoiada) a man of valor."
