Johann Kaspar Schiller war der Sohn eines Schultheißen, dessen Vorfahren vorwiegend Weingärtner und Handwerker im Remstal waren. Er erhielt zunächst bis 1734 Unterricht in Latein durch einen Hauslehrer.
