John Beaufort, 1st Marquess of Somerset and 1st Marquess of Dorset, later only 1st Earl of Somerset, KG (c. 1373 – 16 March 1410) was an English nobleman and politician. He was the first of the four children of John of Gaunt (1340–1399) (third surviving son of King Edward III) by his mistress Katherine Swynford, whom he later married in 1396.

1403 - 1444. John Beaufort was the second son of John Beaufort, 1st Earl of Somerset and Margaret Holland. His father was the illegitimate son of John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, (the third surviving son of King Edward III) and Katherine Swynford.
With the death of Edmund and John, the House of Beaufort became extinct in the male line, however their elder brother, Henry Beaufort, 3rd Duke of Somerset, left an illegitimate son Charles Somerset, 1st Earl of Worcester, (c. 1460 - 15 March 1526) who became the ancestor of the Dukes of Beaufort.
