Our history. Our community. Our place to learn and reflect. Support. Since opening our doors in 1900, The Barrow Gallery has delighted visitors with our collection of over 400 original oil paintings by nineteenth century artist John D. Barrow.
John Dodgson Barrow, best known for his landscapes and portraits, was one of Central New York’s more prolific painters during the second half of the nineteenth century. Born in NYC, November 24, 1824 in an age of Romanticism, he was influenced by both the Hudson River School of painters and the romantic New England poets.
The John D. Barrow Art Gallery is located in the heart of beautiful Skaneateles, NY. It is a single artist museum dedicated to the paintings of John Barrow (1824-1906). Barrow was an accomplished portrait painter who had a studio in NYC for decades before he returned to his hometown.
