Mar 25, 2010 · Singer Johnny Maestro, who performed the 1958 doo-wop hit "16 Candles" with The Crests and enjoyed a decades-long career with The Brooklyn Bridge, has died of cancer. He was 70.
In 2007, Collectables Records reissued the Johnny Maestro & Brooklyn Bridge's 2002 album Peace on Earth as Songs of Inspiration. On March 31, 2009, the album Today, Volume 2 was released on CD by Collectables Records. Johnny Maestro died on March 24, 2010, from cancer in Cape Coral, Florida, at age 70.

Johnny played rhythm guitar on stage. Maestro carried on with the Brooklyn Bridge, despite the band claiming a one-hit wonder status. When Johnny died in 2010, the band carried on without him in his honor, and his spot as lead vocalist was replaced by Joe Esposito, best known for his song "You're the Best", featured in the 1984 film The Karate Kid.
