Joseph Caldwell (April 21, 1773 – January 27, 1835) was a U.S. educator, Presbyterian minister, and mathematician.He was the first president of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holding the office from 1804 until 1812, and from 1816 until his death in 1835.

Joseph Caldwell McJunkin was the first son of Samuel Caldwell McJunkin and Mary Anne Bogan. Born 22 June 1755 in Carlisle , Cumberland County, Pennsylvania & died 31 May 1846 in Union County, South Carolina , he married Anne Jane Thomas 9 March 1779 in Union District, South Carolina .

Caldwell was born on Caldwells Run in Ohio County near Wheeling to Mary Yarnell Caldwell (1781-1819) and her husband Joseph Caldwell (1777 - 1864). His grandfather, James Caldwell (1724-1804), emigrated from northern Ireland with his family and in 1770 settled in the near-wilderness that became Ohio County.

Abbott, Sir John Joseph Caldwell, 1821–93, Canadian political leader. He was a graduate of McGill College, where he served on the law faculty (1853–80). He served in the Canadian House of Commons (1860–74; 1880–87) before his appointment to the Senate in 1887. As prime minister (1891–92), Abbott headed a Conservative administration.
