An actress and singer with a distinctive husky voice, June Allyson was often cast as the archetypal cute girl-next-door, and is probably best remembered for her portrayal of the bandleader’s wife (opposite James Stewart) in THE GLENN MILLER STORY (1954). In the late '30s and early '40s she had small roles in such Broadway musicals as SING OUT THE NEWS, VERY WARM FOR MAY, HIGHER AND HIGHER and PANAMA HATTIE. She won a starring role in BEST FOOT FORWARD (1941) and reprised her part for the 1943 film version.
