It concerns the real figures of Justin Morgan and his bay stallion Figure, who lived in Vermont in the late eighteenth century. It was a runner-up for the Newbery Medal in 1946.

Now the version of Justin Morgan Had a Horse I have just read and reviewed (and also the one most commonly available and in current print) is the expanded 1954 edition, which would thus obviously NOT be the 1945 first edition of Justin Morgan had a Horse that won the 1946 Newbery Honour designation.
