Karen Lam, Class of 1995, began her career as an entertainment lawyer, but in 2000 turned her attention to working full-time as a writer, producer and director in the film and television industry, with a particular talent for horror films.
Dr. Lam is co-founder and CEO of a health tech start-up for veterinary medicine, Pawsperity Biotechnologies Inc., and holds an appointment as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UBC.
Karen obtained her PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of British Columbia (UBC; Vancouver, Canada). She is also Chief Business Officer of the non-profit research organization Centre of Excellence for the Prevention of Organ Failure (PROOF Centre) and Adjunct Professor in the UBC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

Dr. Lam received her B.Sc.(Hon.) in Genetics and Ph.D. in Medical Genetics from the University of British Columbia, bringing to PROOF Centre her expertise in cell and molecular biology, high-throughput screening, functional genomics, drug discovery and target validation.
