    Karl Benz or Karl Friedrich Michael Vaillant was born on 25 November 1844 in Mühlburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
    Benz’s father, Johann Georg Benz, was a locomotive driver. “Benz” was the name he acquired from the legal marriage of his parents after he was born.
    When Benz was two years old, his father died of pneumonia. He changed his name to Karl Friedrich Benz in honor of his father.
    Benz was raised in poor living conditions. Despite their limited means, Benz attended the Karlsruhe Grammar School and, later, Karlsruhe Polytechnic University.
    At the age of 27, Benz joined August Ritter to launch a factory for sheet-metal working in Mannheim.
    During the first years, the business went downhill because of Ritter’s incompetence. Benz’s fiancée, Bertha Ringer, later bought all of the shares and saved his company from bankruptcy.
    When Bertha became the main shareholder, Benz began to lead in the development of new engines in the factory. He focused on creating a two-stroke engine with the hope of gaining revenue.
    His hard work and efforts finally brought him results. On New Year’s Eveof 1879, he received his first patent for his two-stroke engine. In 1880, he patented the other designed parts.
    Emilie Roger, a Parisian bicycle manufacturer, was the second customer who bought the Motorwagen. Roger then added the Benz automobiles to the line and sold the products in Paris.
    In August 1888, Bertha Benz used a Motorwageworld 3 to take her sons Eugen and Richard to visit her mother.
    During her trip, she repaired various technical and mechanical problems encountered in Model 3.
    She invented the brake lining system. The trip was her intention to demonstrate the Benz motorwagen’s performance for travel.
    Benz retired from Benz & Company in 1903. From 1926, he served as a member of the supervisory board of Daimler-Benz AG until his death.
    Benz passed away in 1929, leaving his wife Bertha and five children.
