The Blue Room is a KC institution! It is attached to the American Jazz Museum. Kansas City has a history of jazz. Many great jazz musicians are from KC and many more have shared their history with the city. Subsequently many great acts have made their way through the city and and played at the blue room.
The opening of the American Jazz Museum marked an important moment in a fifty-year conversation about how best to preserve and build on the legacy of the local community. Due to national discriminatory policies and local residential segregation, African Americans in Kansas City built a thriving and dynamic community centered around 18th & Vine.
