    Paxton was first elected to the office of attorney general on November 4, 2014. He was sworn into office on January 5, 2015, replacing Greg Abbott (R). Paxton was re-elected in 2018 and 2022. He was suspended from office in 2023 following a successful impeachment vote in the Texas House of Representatives.
