Kenmore, also known as Kenmore Plantation, is a plantation house at 1201 Washington Avenue in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Built in the 1770s, it was the home of Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis and is the only surviving structure from the 1,300-acre (530 ha) Kenmore plantation.

Read our transparency report to learn more. Located near the heart of Fredericksburg, this handsomely restored 1750s plantation house was home to George Washington's sister Betty and her husband Fielding Lewis. It's small but filled with history which is colorfully explained by well-versed docents.

The Army of Northern Virginia, under General Robert E. Lee, repulsed General Ambrose Burnside's Army of the Potomac on December 13 in the Battle of Fredericksburg. There were over 17,000 casualties that day, half of them falling wounded or dead within sight of Kenmore Plantation.
Kenmore, Fredericksburg, VA. This elegant Georgian mansion was home to Betty Lewis, George Washington’s sister and the wife of wealthy plantation owner Colonel Fielding Lewis. The red brick house was built between a pair of detached wings around 1775. The portico, facing the Rappahannock River, was made with Aquia Stone.
