Euphemia of Pomerania. Valdemar IV Atterdag (the epithet meaning "Return of the Day"), or Waldemar (1320 – 24 October 1375) was King of Denmark from 1340 to 1375. [1] He is mostly known for his reunion of Denmark after the bankruptcy and mortgaging of the country to finance wars under previous rulers.

His aggressive foreign policy led to conflict with Sweden, North German principalities, and the North German trading centres of the Hanseatic League.

Shortly after, Duke Valdemar even entered into a league with King Eric II of Norway, then at war with Denmark. Apparently, in 1295 Valdemar suffered a defeat at a naval battle in the channel of Grønsund. In 1297, a final settlement was concluded where Duke Valdemar among other things abandoned his claims to the disputed island of Als.

May 2, 2019 · Valdemar IV 'Atterdag' Christofsson, King of Denmark was born in 1320. He was the son of Christopher II Eriksson, King of Denmark and Euphamia of Pomerania. He married Hedwig von Schleswig, daughter of Erik II Herzog von Schleswig and Adelheid von Holstein, in 1340. He died in 1375. He succeeded to the title of King Valdemar IV of Denmark in 1340.
