Feb 13, 2023 · 1800. June 15. The U.S. capital is moved from Philadelphia to Washington, DC. Philadelphia had been acting as a temporary capital for the previous ten years while Washington, DC was constructed. The new capital was designed by French-American military engineer Pierre Charles L'Enfant.
