By conducting a reassessment, Lackawanna County is expecting to change from an out-of-date, unequal assessment system to a system that is based on current, accurate property values. It should be noted that reassessment is required to have a revenue neutral tax effect on all taxing authorities.
Tax Claim Bureau. The Tax Claim Bureau is the collector of delinquent property taxes. Delinquent property taxes are returned to the bureau on or before January 31 for the prior calendar year. Beginning February 1, the Tax Claim begins to accrue interest at an annual rate of 9 percent.

Assessed Value. The Assessor is responsible for establishing the assessed value of properties. They are calculated by multiplying a property's market value by a predetermined ratio. This predetermined ratio is currently set to 100% for the whole county. The assessment process takes place every year. Exemptions and Taxable Value.
