Geography and Hydrography. The lake is located at the border between the United States and Canada, and is shared by the American states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan and the Canadian province of Ontario. Lake Superior is also the third largest freshwater lake in the world by volume and the first in North America.
Lake Superior , the largest freshwater lake in the world, is the northernmost, westernmost, highest, and deepest of the five Great Lakes. The lake is fed by the waters of many short swift -flowing streams and drains through the St. Ma rys River into Lake Huron. The shores of the lake are generally high, rocky, and forested.
