The Bayerischer Landtag (Bavarian State Parliament) is one of Bavaria's supreme state bodies. As such, the Parliament is at the centre of the political system of the Free State. The 180 members of the Bavarian State Parliament (without excess and compensation mandates) represent the people, not just one party or group of voters.
1849. The Bavarian Parliament officially received the name "Landtag". From 1819 to 1934, the seat of the State Parliament was the building at Prannerstraße 20 (near Promenadeplatz) in Munich. 1881. Secret election by secret ballot of the members of the State Parliament was introduced.
