Lesley Frost Ballantine (1899-1983), an author of children's books and lecturer on English literature, and was the only surviving child of the poet Robert Frost, who had five children. She formerly lived in Manhattan, and moved to Fairfield in 1980.
When she was an adult, Lesley Frost Ballantine recalled Christmases during her childhood in New Hampshire. Her father, the poet Robert Frost, was very much involved in—and, in fact, usually coordinated—the planning for the holidays, which began as early as October.

In 1967 she founded La Escuela de la Tahona, a summer language school, in La Granja, near Madrid, where she had a home. In 1952 she married Dr. Joseph W. Ballantine, head of the State Department’s Far Eastern Division under Secretary of State Cordell Hull.
With the help of Frost's eldest daughter, Lesley Frost Ballantine and a dedicated group of early trustees and state officials, the restoration process began in earnest in 1974, after the New Hampshire State Legislature appropriated $30,000 by Special Session to help finance the project.
