About LMTA. LITHUANIAN ACADEMY OF MUSIC AND THEATRE. The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) is an internationally recognised higher education institution which trains artists for a professional career in music, theatre, dance and film and offers related theoretical studies.
The Academy is the only specialised school of higher education for music, theatre, dance and film art in Lithuania upholding and developing the training traditions of professional artists and art makers, fostering and preserving the values of academic art and culture, open to original creative ideas and fresh artistic expression.
History A fragment of Lithuanian psalm Gyvenimą tas turės by Martynas Mažvydas, 1570. Music was very important part of ancient Lithuanian polytheistic belief. It is known that, at the start of the 2nd millennium, Baltic tribes had special funeral traditions in which the deeds of the dead were narrated using recitation, and ritual songs about war campaigns, heroes and rulers also existed.
Founded in 1933, the Academy currently hosts about 1,000 students in three study cycles – Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral – in its three faculties, two of which are based in Vilnius, one in Klaipėda. STUDIES. The LMTA offers tuition by Lithuania’s leading practitioners in a performance-based and creative environment.
