Feb 8, 2015 · Updated 6:23 PM PDT, February 7, 2015. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Lizabeth Scott, whose long tawny hair, alluring face and low seductive voice made her an ideal film noir star in the 1940s and ‘50s, has died in Los Angeles. She was 92.
An alluring blonde with a husky, come-hither voice, Lizabeth Scott was a leading lady of film noir during the genre's peak years in the late 1940s and early 1950s, but scandal drove her from the public eye after only a few years on screen.
Scott also appeared on live television during the 1950s but her stage fright began getting the best of her. Her name became mired in scandal when Confidential magazine alluded to the fact that the unmarried Lizabeth Scott was active in Hollywood’s underground lesbian community. Scott sued the magazine for libel but the case was dismissed.
Aug 30, 2016 · According to the New York Times: “Ms. Scott sued for $2.5 million, contending that the magazine had portrayed her in a “vicious, slanderous and indecent” manner. The outcome was never made public, but the suit, filed in 1955, was believed to have been settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.
