The smallest county by area in the state, Los Alamos County was formerly administered exclusively by the U.S. federal government during the Manhattan Project, but it now has equal status to New Mexico's other counties. The county has two census-designated places: Los Alamos and White Rock.

The Los Alamos County government offers its citizens a wide variety of services including full Utilities (water, gas, electric, sewer and refuse), recreational facilities including an Olympic size indoor pool and over 90 miles of hiking trails. Library facilities serve both suburbs of Los Alamos and White Rock.
About the community. Comprising a little more than 19,000 residents, we are two small communities in one County - Los Alamos townsite and White Rock. We are also home to one of the National Nuclear Security Administration's laboratories - Los Alamos National Laboratory.
