Louis II (26 December 1777 – 16 June 1848) was Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine from 6 April 1830 until 16 June 1848. He was the son of Louis I, Grand Duke of Hesse, and Princess Louise of Hesse-Darmstadt.

Ernest Louis was the elder son of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was named Louis after his father.

Feb 14, 2023 · Ludwig (Louis) II was Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine from 1830 to 1848. He was born in 1777 in Darmstadt, in what was then the Holy Roman Empire. He married his cousin Princess Wilhelmine of Baden in 1804 in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. The couple separated after the birth of their second surviving child in 1809.
