I could never come close to that, but Fall Creek Junior High eighth grade student Luke Garrett does just that, and better. He has been competing in Rubik’s cube tournaments since he was 9 years old.

This past weekend, some of the fastest solvers of the Rubik’s Cube gathered in Toronto, Canada, to compete in the World Cube Association (WCA) Rubik’s North American Championship, the largest speedcubing competition since the pandemic. Local speedcuber Luke Garrett placed third in the classic 3×3 event.
Matty Hiroto Inaba won with an average of 5.62 seconds in the 3x3x3 Cube event. Patrick Ponce finished second (6.27) and Luke Garrett finished third (6.68). World records: Zayn Khanani Skewb 0.81 (single) and Skewb 1.73 (average). Asian records: Antonio Kam (甘浩東) 3x3x3 Blindfolded 17.47 (single).
