Feb 10, 2023 · Early symptoms of Lyme disease usually happen within 3 to 30 days after a tick bite. This stage of disease has a limited set of symptoms. This is called early localized disease. A rash is a common sign of Lyme disease. But it doesn't always happen.
In the early stage of the disease, patients typically experience flu-like symptoms including, fatigue, headaches, fevers, chills, body aches and pains, and gastrointestinal problems.
One of the most common symptoms is a ring-shaped rash that looks like a bulls-eye. It may be pink in the center and have a darker red ring around it. The rash does not occur in every case of Lyme disease. Lyme disease is usually not hard for a healthcare provider to diagnose.

Children with a bulls-eye rash (also called an erythema migrans lesion) may also have systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and joint aches. The rash may not have a classic bull-eye appearance, especially on people with darkly pigmented skin, and can be mistaken for cellulitis, ringworm, or other skin conditions.
