Luci Baines Turpin (née Johnson) was born on July 2, 1947, in Washington, D.C. She is the younger of the two daughters of Lyndon B. Johnson. Her name was originally spelled "Lucy", but she changed the spelling in her teens as a rebellion against her parents.

They had four children: Patrick Lyndon (b. 1967), a lawyer and a pilot in San Antonio; Nicole Marie (b. 1970); Rebekah Johnson (b. 1974); and Claudia Taylor Nugent (b. 1976). The couple later divorced, and the marriage was annulled by the Catholic Church in August 1979.

Lyndon Baines Johnson was born on August 27, 1908, near Stonewall, Texas, in a small farmhouse on the Pedernales River. He was the eldest of five children born to Samuel Ealy Johnson Jr. and Rebekah Baines. Johnson had one brother, Sam Houston Johnson, and three sisters, Rebekah, Josefa, and Lucia.
