Wisconsin Historical Museum. The Wisconsin Historical Museum is located at 30 N. Carroll Street on Madison’s Capitol Square. The current home of the Museum was built in 1953 and originally housed the Wolff, Kubly & Hirsig hardware store. The Historical Society renovated the building and the Museum moved in during April, 1986.

The new history center will utilize the site of the current Wisconsin Historical Museum as well as two adjacent properties on Madison’s Capitol Square. The new facility will more than double the exhibition space of the current museum and is expected to welcome more than 200,000 guests annually.
The current Wisconsin Historical Museum opened in 1986, at the top of State Street on Madison’s Capitol Square. The building was converted from an old hardware store.
