Location of the main belt This plot shows the location of the main belt with respect to the planets and the Sun as well as the orbital structure of asteroid inclinations and number density of objects (yellow represents the highest number density, blue the lowest). (main belt) The zone near to the plane of the ecliptic and between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter that contains the majority of asteroids, known as main-belt asteroids. The edges are well-defined at distances from the Sun of about 1.7 and 4.0 AU respectively and the orbits are strongly concentrated in the plane of the ecliptic.

The diagram was created by Piotr Deuar [1] using orbit data for 120437 numbered minor planets from the Minor Planet Center orbit database, dated 8 Feb 2006.
Belt. A belt is a piece of clothing worn around a person's waist. They can be used to hold up trousers (pants, men) or skirts (women) or for carrying things in pockets, such as on a utility belt, which police use. Belts are commonly made using cloth or leather. They are worn by men and women, however men wear them more casually and formally.
