In short, determination of cause of death rests heavily on medical principle while determination of manner of death rests heavily on circumstance investigation. In most cases, the need to report the death to a ME/C, is obvious: the trauma patient that comes in with multiple gunshot wounds or the sudden and unexpected death of an infant.
