Marriage and issue. Sophie of Pomerania was the fiancée of John VI, Duke of Mecklenburg, the brother of her later husband Magnus II of Mecklenburg. After John's death, Sophie went into a convent, and vowed perpetual chastity. But Magnus II was very attached to securing the border with Pomerania and therefore interested in a marriage with Sophie.

Feb 29, 2024 · Danish and Holy Roman Rule of Szczecin/Stettin and Pomerania. Then began a dance-off between the Holy Roman Empire and Denmark, the latter of which periodically controlled Pomerania into the 13th century, and Stettin was completely destroyed and rebuilt in the process.
With his death, the Pomerania-Stettin line of the House of Griffins died out. It had begun with Duke Otto I ( c. 1279 -1344). Otto's death triggered the Stettin War of Succession .
