The Duchy of Pomerania ( German: Herzogtum Pommern; Polish: Księstwo pomorskie; Latin: Ducatus Pomeraniae) was a duchy in Pomerania on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea, ruled by dukes of the House of Pomerania ( Griffins ). Apr 27, 2022 · From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Eric II or Erich II, of the House of Pomerania (Griffins), (* between 1418 and 1425, † 1474), was Duke of Pomerania-Wolgast from 1457 to 1474. He was the son of Wartislaw IX of Pomerania-Wolgast and Sophia of Saxe-Lauenburg (d. 1462, daughter of Eric IV of Saxe-Lauenburg).
The commander of the military garrison was Christian August von Anhalt-Zerbst, father of future empress Catherine II the Great, who was born in Szczecin (1729). New fortifications from 1724–1740 transformed Szczecin into a formidable Prussian fortress with three forts. It took 43 million bricks and 9 million thalers to build them.
