Mark the Evangelist was one of the first original disciples of Jesus Christ. He is best remembered as the author of the ‘Gospel of Mark’ in the ‘Bible.’ He is also believed to be the founder of the ‘Church of Alexandria,’ one of the most important episcopal sees of early Christianity.
The legacy of John Mark is two-fold. First, he was an evangelist working in the first generation after Jesus ascended. His cousin Joseph Barnabas had been a member of the Jewish community on Cyprus, probably having come to Jerusalem at the time of Passover at the time of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
