Marshall Thompson (born August 24, 1942), is an American singer and musician. Thompson is best known as an original member of the Chicago, Illinois –based Soul/R&B vocal group The Chi-Lites.
Marshall as a young performer. The Chi-Lites’ biggest hit was Oh Girl. The 1972 smash gained national exposure when the group performed the song on The Flip Wilson Show. After their appearance, the recording catapulted to become an instant crossover hit, storming up the R&B and pop charts.
On September 30, 2021, the Chi-Lites received the 2,702 star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The award presenters were Sirius XM radio personality Jeff Foxx from New York and Jimmy Walker, best known for his role as J.J. on Good Times. Joining Marshall Thompson was the current group his wife Tara Thompson, Fred Simon, Warren Tipton and Mack Miller.

About The Chi-Lites. It started in 1959 when Marshall Thompson formed a vocal group called the “Hi-Lights” in his hometown of Chicago with fellow members Eugene Record, Robert Lester and Creadel “Red” Jones. After releasing several singles on local labels, the group changed their name in 1964 to “Marshall & The Chi-Lites”.
