Martin Arrouge was born on March 23, 1915 in San Francisco. He met Norma Shearer in 1938, two years after the death of her first husband Irving Thalberg Sr., when he taught her and her two children to ski. In 1942, Shearer married Arrouge. The marriage lasted until her death in 1983.

Feb 8, 2022 · Shearer retired in 1942 and married a former ski instructor, Martin Arrougé, a man 11 years younger than her. They remained together until her death in 1983 of pneumonia at the age of 80 at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, California.
